Cannot join a windows 7 professional machine to a local domain.
When trying to join the domain I get a DNS error. I have added the machine name to AD and From the windows machine I can Map network drives and get to the internet. I diabled IPv6, I added the DNS IPs , I flushed DNS on the win7 machines and I also tried adding the DNS suffix in the advanced properties page. Still no Joy Any other ideas? thanks

On the Windows 7 machine, simply ensure that its DNS Client settings are pointing ONLY to the internal DNS server(s) hosting the AD zone. Do not configure the Win 7 box to use any other DNS setting. That should take care of the DNS error. As long as the computer account you created allows the user ID that you are using to join, you should have JOY... Feel free to post the IP settings for the server and client if you feel that you need someone to review it. Visit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.

If you are not the domain administrator you may need contact the admin and properly configure the DNS server setting. You need to make the DNS server which is also the AD DNS server as the primary DNS server. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
