Cannot use internet, but torrents still working.
I have Windows 7 Ultimate and a week or so ago my internet stopped working. I cannot update Windows or use any web browser, however my mu torrent program is still working fine. I am on a router that the other computer is using with out any issues. My computer says its connected to the network. I've tried everything. Windows Network Diagnostics says "The connection between your access point, router, or cable modem and the Internet is broken". I have no idea how to fix this and I've tried so many things.

In Internet Explorer click on Tools => Internet Options => Connections => Lan Settings Remove all the checkmarks then exit Internet Explorer and try again. If there was something in the Proxy Server settings that you or your network administrator didn't put there you may be infected with malware.Kerry Brown MS-MVP - Windows Desktop Experience

Hi, First, please go to run the built-in network troubleshooter. You can also try the following steps to troubleshoot the issue. 1. Temporarily turn off firewall on the machine and router (If it has) and test the issue in Clean Boot. 2. Restart the computer to Safe Mode with Networking to check the result. 3. Configure the connection to obtain an IP address automatically ======================================= a. Click "Start", input "NCPA.CPL" (without quotation marks) to Start Search bar and press "Enter". b. Right-click the network connection and click "Properties". If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. c. Click to highlight "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)" and click "Properties". d. Check "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically". e. Click "OK". f. Click to highlight "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and click "Properties". g. Check "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically". h. Click "OK". i. Reboot the computer. 4. Update or reinstall the NIC driver; update the router’s firmware. What's the result now? Regards, Sabrina Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Is your torrent client set to start upon boot? If so the amount of connections it makes may be overwhelming your computer or your router. Torrent clients are far more aggressive and network resource hungry than other programs. Try disabling it upon first boot, followed by shutting down your computer. For good measure, also reboot your router / modem while your computer is off. Upon booting up, see if things work correctly with the torrent client off. If this doesn't work, what happens when you try to ping other computers on the internet (eg "ping google.ca")
