Certain Windows 7 Updates fail to install, this includes the SP1 update
I think I may have a windows update issue and that it is trying to apply the updates, on re-boot it reports it failed and reverses the update.
Reviewing the update history I see the following error...

Also a screenshot of windows Updates History
https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/VhEtPSQEIfPi1xgaBV5m85vQnRueJ2F0YTHH98MmTgo?feat=directlink
All the failed updates that failed are showing error code 80070005
The failed Security update is showing error code 80070643
I am thinking the issue may stem from Folder Permissions, ownership etc.
Is there a list of Folders that the updates will try to access. And if so what should i check in terms of permission/ownership on those folders?
This is my work Laptop, and i have administrator rights to it.
I am out of the office/out of the country - so can not have my own IT dept to look at it - and usually i am very comfortable fixing it myself - but the failed updates are now annoying me :-(
I have done the whole - troubleshooter, disable AV software, ensure Software Protection Service is running, download the System Update readiness tool - ran it via sfc /scannow - no issues reported
Renamed the Software Distribution folder, and let windows Update re-create the folder
I am using a HP ProBook 4520s 32bit, Windows 7, intel Core i3 processor

For error code 80070005, have a look to this Microsoft article:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Windows-Update-error-80070643
For SP1, refer to this Microsoft article:
http://windows.microsoft.com/troubleshootwindows7sp1
Other, proceed like that even you have already performed some of them:
Run sfc /scannow Run chkdsk /r /f Download and install the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821/
Reset Windows Update Components: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058
If this does not help, perform a repair install for your Windows 7.
