Certain windows not responding, explorer hangs,
I recently installed the Release Candidate on an IBM Thinkcentre 8183-CTO.Whilst not the fastest machine, it is a Pentium 4 with a gig of RAM. The first day or so, it ran okay, but then it started being slow to respond; a few examples:Click on Start, click on All Programs, the word 'Back' appears, but no menu. It might appear a few minutes laterSometimes clicking on IE does not open it, but a solitary right click will!Performance is giving it a rating of '1', so I appreicate it's not the quickest. But surely a P4 with a gig should be sufficient for a test?Opening Snip can take a minute or two, but it does not Save. Some programs in control panel cause a "Explorer is not responding message" and we go back to a pure background and after a minute or so Explorer starts.Word 2003 hangsStrange thing is, gadget works perfectly. Tried Clock, Currency, News, Calendar, all okay.Any pointers please.

John - You do realize that that Performance rating of 1 only applies to the lowest common denominator. If your other components are up to spec, but you've got one item that rates as a 1, the whole system is rated as such. That may not be the most fair way to evaluate a system, but it will give you a pointer to whatever is the weakest link in the system and what you can do to improve the machine with an upgrade (if that's possible). That said, what component on yourcomputer rated a 1..? That wouldn't be the hard drive, would it?I just had a look on the web - and yes, your P4 (2.6 GHz) chip and 1 GB of RAM should be plenty to run Win 7. My Win 7 box only has 1 GB of RAM - tho it does have a faster 7200 RPM hard drive. Gadgets don't generally consume a lot of system resources. What sort of video card/chipset does this computerhave?
