Hi Livin,They are stored in a folder called 'System volume information.' However, the folder is inaccessible and trying to open it will result in an Access Denied message. The files cannot be read and because of the access denied cannot be copied either.John Barnett MVP: Windows XP Associate Expert: Windows Desktop Experience: Web: http://www.winuser.co.uk; Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org; Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org;

Interesting. Under XP you could see the "System volume information" folders and you could "Take Ownership" if you wanted then traverse and manipulate them as wanted. Under Windows 7, the "System volume information" is not visible at all, so it must be one of the "Super Hidden" folders. I wonder how you gain access to this and other "Super hidden" folders in Win 7?

You can still take ownership and set permissions on "System volume information".Open Folder Options, and go to the View tab. Select "Show hidden files, folders, and drives", and clear all three "Hide" boxes. After you do that, you should be able to see the "System volume information" folder. Right click it, select "Properties", and go to the "Security" tab. Click the "Advanced" button to take ownership.You might have to turn UAC off.There is a KB articile about all this somewhere.

Hi Brian,I already have full control of the system volume information folder but it still throws up an 'access denied' message.John Barnett MVP: Windows XP Associate Expert: Windows Desktop Experience: Web: http://www.winuser.co.uk; Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org; Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org;

Thanks Brian. I thought I had already give myself full access to all files but then remembered I did not uncheck Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) because when I do then I get a desktop.ini showing on the desktop. I just unchecked it and deleted desktop.ini and now I can see "System volume information".
