Changing a dual-boot installation
Hi. Things are so good with the RC that I thought I'd ask this now and get it out of the way.. Here's my setup:I have two partitions on a hard drive: part 1 is Vista SP2, part 2 is Win7RC (both x64).When the RTM comes out, I will want to install it into the first partition, and wipe Vista first. BUT, if I wipe that partition then I'll lose the boot files that allow me into the 2nd partition - the existing Win7 RC..What are the acrobatics necessary to wipe the first partition yet still have dual-boot when I'm done? Maybe the answer is to not wipe thepartition with a reformat, but instead just manually delete all the files/folders except for the boot sector and boot files(?).Thanks people! /jim

My question is; Why bother to keep the RC version if you are installing the RTM?wolfie

Hmmmm. Maybe to not need to transfer files and settings off disk...?Not that I know the answer but seems to me the install will see W7 RC and ask if a dual boot is wanted and then set up for it as usual if you choose to do so. Especially if you opt to format the Vista drive during the install and not before. Like I said, maybe I'm wrong about this.

Sure, you can keep that RC on the second partition. Just don't really need it as a bootable OS, i thinks. Youshould be able to access that partition to grab whatever files you have there so long as they haven't been made private to the Win7 user.wolfie

Even if you wipe the Vista partition, the install should see the 2nd partition and set it up for a dual boot. If it doesn't, its easy enough to fix. Download and install EasyBCD. This is an easy to use "boot manager" utility that allows you to view, change and set up boot partitions to boot just about any OS.
