Are your old and new accounts both POP3 accounts? In the new identity: File | Import | Messages. Select Microsoft Outlook Express 6 and Import from the old identity. What do you see and what exactly happens?Bruce Hagen ~ MS-MVP [Mail]

They are both POP3 accounts. When I imported Messages, what I got was the new stuff that came in after the change. Tried under both new and old identities; old identity brought in the new stuff, old identity got an error message, something like "can't do it, being used by another program." Tried to import my Address Book and it took me to my Documents folder. GRRRRRRRRRR!

When I imported Messages, what I got was the new stuff that came in after the change. I don't understand this. How did new messages end up in your old account if it has a different address? What happens if you go to the old identity and in Tools | Accounts | Mail Account | Properties, remove the old account information and add the new account info. IOW, use the old identity for the new account. Bruce Hagen ~ MS-MVP [Mail]

Hey Bruce, thanks SO much! I had to go to HughesNet's tech support to get the email settings corrected, then used the procedure you gave me and voila! All my stuff is now safely in my Outlook Express (except for my contact list, which I can get from my spam blocker). I really appreciate your help, I am a low-tech person and clueless about this stuff, but I CAN follow instructions fairly well! Have a great day!

You're welcome. Glad it's working. Are you using the new identity?Open the Address Book in the old identity and File | Export | Address Book (wab) to any place on your HDD that is easy for you. My Documents is fine. Then, open the Address Book in the new identity and File | Import | Address Book (wab) and point to where you saved it. You can also unhide system folders and then do a search. Note the path and use the above instructions to import. In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View. Now do a search for: *.wabBruce Hagen ~ MS-MVP [Mail]

I am a very low-tech person so have no idea how it happened. But if you'll look at my later post, you will see that I went to HughesNet's tech support folks, who told me how to adjust the settings in Outlook, and then your Import instructions worked like a charm! Thanks so much, I really do appreciate it, because I am clueless with this stuff.
