HiNo, this is not normal behavior. I haven't seen this reported before?Do you have any other programs or utilities running that may be using the cmd.exe file when this happens? What happens if you right click the Command Prompt and select the Run As Administrator option?Let us know. charles.leggetteHiIt runs OK either way here, standard or elevated.Go to Start / All Programs / Accessories.Right click the Command Prompt and select Properties / Shortcut Tab.What do you see in the Target and Start in boxes there?Click the Open file location button. Does it open to C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe?Also, what level do you have User Account Control set.Let me know.Thank You for testing Windows 7 Beta

charles.leggette Hi CharlesWell this behavior has certainly got me stumped?I have tried just about everything to recreate this and have been unsuccessful. The only thing I can recommend is trying a System Restore point to go back to a point before you first noticed the problem. You can also try runningthe System File Checker tool, sfc /scannow from an elevated command prompt to check all of the system files for integrity.Let us know if you have any success with these.Regards,Thank You for testing Windows 7 Beta

Turn UAC back on. Something external could have caused your issue. Since you have UAC turned off, you would never know that something was trying to do harm. Allow Windows 7 to prove that it is more secure than Windows XP by not turning down the built-in protection mechanism down to XP level.
