Command line window opens then closes immediately
I cannot run things like ping, msconfig etc because my command line window does not stay open. I go to 'Run', type in 'ping' and hit OK. I see the balck screen window open, but it then closes immediately. The problem has only existed for a week, since I downlaoded Comcast's security toolbar which locked up my machine. I uninstalled the Comcast stuff and the machine seemed OK. But maybe I missed something. And maybe it was nothing to do with Comcast. Any suggestions as to how I can get by Command Line window to stay open? (I have tried System Restore to an earlier pre-Comcast date, and I have tried turning off my virus prptection - neither brings the window back) Thanks. Mike1 person needs an answerI do too

Many thanks, Cybertek! The window opens and stays open when I double-click cmd.exe. Must I always use this method, or can I straighten out 'Run' so that it will work again? Btw, I could not open the link you sent me - I got anerror message about the site using the wrong sort of compression? More than I need yo know today :-) Thanks again. Mike

typecmdinto the Run box. What happens then?If it will not work I thinkall you can do is place a shortcut to cmd.exe on your desktopGo back and find cmd.exeNow, I am not using XP at the moment, so this is from memory. It might just be slightly different.Right click cmd.exe and look for a way to create a shortcut. It might be under "New" (can`t remember)Make the shortcut on your desktop.
