Completely disable AIPA?
Hi , Did you follow the 244268 KB article? You may try the following suggestions to check the issue: 1. Release and renew IP address for your computer: ================================= a. Click the Start button, click "All programs", and click "Accessories". b. Right-click "Command Prompt", and click "Run as administrator". If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. c. Please enter the following commands, and press enter after each ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew 2. Reset TCP/IP ===================== Netsh in tip reset 3. Register DNS via command on Windows 7: ipconfig /flushdns ipconfig /registerdns 4. Reset WinSock via command: ================================= Netsh winsock reset A message stating "Successfully reset the Winsock Catalog" will appear. Please restart the computer. Hope this helps. I think if you set static IP address under alternate configuration in tcp/ip properties that should disable APIPA as well. That should enable your computer to pick up ip address from the DHCP server when available and default to that static IP when not.

Hi, I'm looking for a way to disable APIPA in Windows 7, so that there are no possible circumstances in which the PC ends up with a 169.254.xxx.xxx IP address. I've found numerous articles suggesting that this can be done by setting a DWORD of IPAutoconfigurationEnabled with a value of 0 in either HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\Tcpip\Parameters or in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\[Interface GUID], but this doesn't appear to work. Setting the interface to 'Obtain an IP address automatically' when no DHCP server is present still results in a 169.254 address being assigned. (Is this working for anyone else?) What I want is for the 169.254 address never to be assigned under any circumstances. Can this be accomplished?
