Computer begins to act weird after left on for too long

So for this game that I play it requires that I be in game to accumulate labor, and so I'll set it so it doesn't go to sleep mode and it will keep me in the game while I sleep and am at school, I don't do this every day, maybe two or three days a week at most. Some of the times I'll come home and it will have disconnected me from the game, and so I close the program and I see my desktop background is just black and the screen is pushed to the left, right clicking doesn't work and I can't open programs, and if I go to the start menu I can't click on the power button (Nothing happens when I do) or any of the other start menu buttons. Also when I move the mouse to the top right of the screen to bring up the think that lets me search/share/start and so on that doesn't come up for the most part, it will sometimes but when it does none of the buttons are on there. Wasn't sure where to post this. I've already done a full scan with webroot. And I'm pretty sure it's not an issue with the game because many other people do this same thing and I couldn't find someone who had an issue like this.

Hello GDog2Cool4u,

Does this issue occur in daily use? Only after left too long?

Please take the following steps for troubleshooting:
1. Try to create a new account and log on as new account and check if the issue still exists.
Create a user account: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-hk/windows/create-user-account#create-user-account=windows-8
If this issue doesnt exist in the new account, please refer to the following article to fix the corrupted profile.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-hk/windows/fix-corrupted-user-profile#1TC=windows-7
This article is about Windows 7, and Windows 8 is similar.
2. Use the command Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth to fix the system

I've already tried on a different account, it still happened occasionally. And it's not just a problem with stuff not showing, just about none of the programs work. I can't open them or anything. And it hasn't happened while I was on it, just occasionally when I leave my computer on overnight.

Hello GDog2Cool4u,

You could use the Task Manager to check which program or process occupy large number of system resource.

Try to perform a clean boot in Windows to check if a program have conflict to cause this issue.

Please take the following steps for troubleshooting:
1. Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Troubleshooting\All Categories and run the Power Troubleshooter
2. Update the drivers from the manufacturer website
3. Try to install the latest Windows update.

I'll set it so it doesn't go to sleep mode

Have you tried using Hibernate instead?

Some of the times I'll come home and it will have disconnected me from the game, and so I close the program and I see my desktop background is just black

Sounds like a resource shortage.  Before closing the program I would use Task Manager or Resource Monitor to try to find out what is going on.  You can do that via Ctrl-Alt-Delete if necessary.  You could also use either to Restart explorer.exe in case it is where the problem is.

Good luck
