Computer running real slow
I have Windows XP and cannot find any updates for it. Saw a link that stated that XP would not be supported after 07/11/2010. I cannot run IE w/o it bogging down and have searched for all updates to both and found nothing. Had same problem on another computer running Windows 7, was able to find updates and is now running fine. Can anyone assist me on this? Thank you for your assistance,GypsyMoon

XP with SP3 will be supported until 2014. Go to Start | Run and type msconfig and then disable all startup item and non-Microsoft services and reboot and then see how fast your computer is then. You can go back in and then selectively enable any startup items you need. Then go to Start | Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Disk cleanup and run that and then reboot again and see if that runs faster. Also check your system for viruses and malware (www.malwarebytes.org). steve <GypsyMoon> wrote in message news:Email removed for privacy...I have Windows XP and cannot find any updates for it. Steve, you definitely misread the enquiry.GypsyMoon is using XP, possibly only SP2, and can not get any updates. IE is bogging down, due to LACK of updates that are not forthcoming. Which means that the IE being used is possibly either IE 6 or 7.The clue?............this, XP SP1/2 would/will not be supported after 07/11/2010. (Self-explanatory, really.)Nothing was ever said, about XP SP3, so why are you generating 'false hope' here?Support for these OS versions (this does include Vista SP1!)actually ended........on October, of 2010. Not November!

Have a look in the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for Errors and Warnings and post copies here. Don't post any from than more than 48 hours ago. You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important. A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click on the error you want to copy. You will see a button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event Viewer. This places a copy of the report into your Clipboard. Paste into the body your message. Make sure that this is the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer.Hope this helps, Gerry Cornell
