Configure Windows 7 to accept incoming L2TP connections
Is there a way to configure Windows 7 to accept incoming L2TP connections? Accepting incoming PPTP connections works great but I need to use L2TP with/without IPSEC. The configuration settings for incoming connections is extremely sparse; I don't see any place to enter a preshared key or specify the protocol to use. Perhaps it is beyond the capabilities of Win 7, but I hold out hope that I'm overlooking some Group Policy settings or registry edits that allow it.

Hi, Thanks for the post! Please refer to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942429 , it provides details on why you cannot configure like that. Although this KB was not written for Windows 7 but the design of Windows 7 is very familiar with Windows Vista. Thanks for your response Miya however I don't see how it relates to my question. Let me try clarifying my question: I have two PCs running Windows 7 and I would like to use one of them as L2TP/IPSec VPN Server and the second one as L2TP/IPSec VPN Client. The relevant network devices (Router, FW, etc) only allow/forward the traffic from the Client to the Server and vice versa. I was able to successfully create PPTP VPN between them but not L2TP/IPSEC VPN.

I ask the same thing (I just deleted a duplicate opened subject about that): Is it possible to set up and "incoming connection" using L2TP/IPSEC using preshared key on Windows 7 pro? If not, is it possible to do it with a certificate? Or both are only available on windows server edition? I prefer preshared key as it seems far more simple than certificates. Certificates would require some knowledge that I don't have. Hard to find information about that.
