Connected to the Internet, but surfing impossible
Hello,I have problems with my network connection in Vista.I am able to (wireless) connect to the network and to the Internet (I can ping to google and I get an answer, and the connection to the Internet is also shown in the Network Center). Unfortunately surfing is impossible... I tried Internet Explorer 7 and FireFox 3. The gadgets on the sidebar don't load their information neither.I am able to check e-mail with outlook and Live Messenger is working as well. When I do a Diagnose and Repair I get the answer that there is a network problem which can't be automatically resolved without any further information about the error.I also tried the following:-system restore to a date where everything worked perfectly-reset IE to factory defaults-netsh winsock reset catalog-netsh int ip resetNothing worked...Who could please help me with this issue? Thanks!!Kind regards,Geoffrey

Sounds like some sort of software that is blocking your Internet traffic. Do you by any chance have Norton Internet Security installed on your computer. I have had a lot of problems with that application blocking the Internet. If so, check your settings on that. But check and see if your Anti Virus or Firewall is blocking anything.Let me know how it goes.

Yes, I thought that would be the cause too... I have uninstalled Norton Security entirely and I blocked all unnecessary programs from starting up at boot time via the msconfig tool. This didn't help neither... Only the Firewall from Vista is running, but switching this firewall on or off doesn't change anything neither...

Hi, It seems that this issue is not related to the network, only Internet Explorer does not work properly. Maybe some background services block IE. Please follow the steps below. 1. Click the Start Button type "msconfig" (without quotation marks) in the Start Search box, and then press Enter. Note: If prompted, please click Continue on the User Account Control (UAC) window. 2. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray). 3. Also disable the startup items as you have done before. Then, restart the computer. When the "System Configuration Utility" window appears, please check the "Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" box and click OK. If the issue still occurs, I suggest that you Download HiJackthis, and check the IE plug-ins. 1. Please download the Internet Explorer analyzer HijackThis from the following link: http://www.techspot.com/download317.html Please Note: The third-party product discussed here is manufactured by a company that is independent of Microsoft. We make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this product's performance or reliability. 2. Save the zip file to your Desktop. 3. Right-click the zip file, choose "Extract All", select the path to save the file (you may leave it as the default value), and then you will receive the extracted file. 4. Double click the extracted file to run HiJackThis. (Note: If there is a notification message, please click OK.) 5. In the HijackThis window, click "Do a system scan and save a log file". (Note: If there is a notification message, please click OK.) 6. HijackThis will scan the system and generate a log file in Notepad. 7. On the log file menu, please click File and choose Save As. Please save the file to the Desktop. Please open the log and paste the contents in your post.
