It sounds as if your router has security turned on.Routers can have a security password so that not everybody can access your network. There are a couple of ways to find out what the key is.1.First I would try the instruction manual for the router if you still have it. Sometimes there is a default password for the network.2.Next, I would press the reset button on the back of the router. It is a small recessed button that you need a paperclip or pen to press because the button is recessed kind of deep. Press and hold for ten seconds. Then go through setup to setup the network again.3.After that I would try to access the routers configuration setup. This is more complicated if you have never done it before. There is a website that is actually inside the router so that you can change the network settings. First you need to find the ip address for the router. It is usually 192.168.1.1. You can look up the address for the router at the manufacturers website plus other various places.http://www.techspot.com/guides/287-default-router-ip-addresses/You can also type ipconfig on the working computer. The default gateway should be the routers ip address. After you have the ip address of the router, open up internet explorer or another browser. At the top, type in the ip address of the router in the box. You may come up with a window which asks for a password. This is a different password- this is a password to access the router. The router password should be default, which may be "admin" or left blank. The user name is usually admin. Again, look up this information either at the manufacturers website plus other internet sites. Ok, now if your on the website for the routers configuration setup you can see or change whatever the network password is. You can also change the routers password because you don't want to leave it at default. There are usually tabs or buttons to set up different things. You need to look for network or security setup. Eventually you will need to find "netwrok key" or "wep key" or "wpa key" or something else to that effect. Be careful to just view the settings but don't change anything unless you are sure. Press the reset button if you make a mistake. Hope this helps! PS It sounds that you set up your network yourself. If your internet provider (verizon, comcast, or whoever) set up your network they usually write the passwords down somewhere for you. You can also try their customer support. If I helped let me know!
