Connecting Vista Ultimate to NT4 Domain
Hi, I'm trying to connect a Vista Ultimate machine to a NT4 network and I am getting this error message, " Your computer could not be joined to the domain because the following error has occurred: There is no user session key for the specified logon session." I searched the knowledge base for this with no luck. I am using the administrator credentials when trying to connect to the domain. Anyone seen this problem? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Problem is fixed. I had to add the computer name to the domainat the server. It would not let me join the domain by using the domain administrator username and password from the computer itself when connecting to the domain.

Try renaming the computer. Add the new name to the domain at the server and then attempt to connect to the domain from your computer. Should work.

I have the same error when trying to join a newly installed Vista (both Business and Ultimate, 64-bit) PC to a Windows 2003 domain. I don't have access to the server right now, so I cannot add it at the server itself. The odd thing is that I have another Vista Business (32-bit) PC that I was able to join to the domain without trouble. So I'm a bit puzzled about this one. If anyone has any further suggestions to try, please share. Thanks Jason High

This may be a dumb question, but when you say "add the computer name to the domainat the server", how would I go about doing this? Basically the setup I have here at my officeis a Microsoft Server 2000. All of the workstations are currently running Windows XP Pro and it is working fine. There is also a laptop using XP Pro which is also working fine. The problem is with 2 laptops that we have the are using Vista. These 2 are having trouble connecting to the server. I think by adding the computer name to the domain at the server will correct the problem, I just dont know how!! Appreciate any help that can be thrown my way. . . Thanks!

Try also ensuring the time is the same as the PDC on NT4 So Create the computer account on PDC Check the time on PDC Check the time on PC netdom join COMPUTERNAME /domainOMAINNAME /userD:ADMINUSERONDOMAIN /passwordDASSWORDFORDOMAIN Hope this helps

I am also trying to join a vista ultimate pc to an NT4 domain. I get Logon failure:bad username or password (using any good credentials)I have also added the pc to the domain and I have lowered the network security to not use NTLMv2, also disabled TCP/IPv6, but I do not know where to go from there.systems analyst
