Connecting to Windows7 from 98
Is it going to be possible to connect to Windows 7 from a 98 machine? I have a computer shop and connect to this computer to store customers data, or to access files and drivers for installation. Since vista I can not do this with anything older than XP I really like Windows 7 and this would be the only reason I would not upgrade to it.

There have been reports of people having issues connecting with Windows XP machines, so I can't say it will definitely work. As long as you put the computers into the same network group it could definitely work.

I don't have any problems connecting to Xp with 98. Just connecting to Windows 7. I think I had the same issue connecting to Vista, but since I had all I could take of vista in about 3 days I can't remember. I have a few computers on my network, 2 of which have shared folders with read only and some shared with full access. Connexting to XP from Windows 7, and vice versa I have absloutely no problems unless I get a XP machine that has no service packs yet, then it will not connect to windows 7 shares. Windows 98 systems will connect to the XP machines fine, but gets a message like " this action is not allowed on the network" or something like that when trying to connect to the windows 7 system. (do not quote me on that particular message) I wound up dual booting the system with windows 7/XP incase I do have a 98 system I need to work on but it would be nice to not have to do that in the future. I do still have ALOT of customers that still run 98, either from not wanting to spend the money on a new computer, or because their software will only work on 98 and below.

Well it is not recommended to install Windows 7 on a production computer at this stage. If this is your primary computer that you need compatibility with you are best advised to either use Windows 7 in a dual boot or virtual environment.

Yes, that is why I was bringing up this subject so maybe it can be made possible before windows 7 is complete.

Windows 7 working with Windows 98 is very unlikely. Once an old operating system is grandfathered it basically means move on from it as it is not supported anymore. If it doesn't work with Windows Vista, it won't likely work with Windows 7 either.
