Connecting to a Cisco RV082 VPN Router
I bought this Cisco RV082 8-port VPN Gateway/Router. It is connected to the Internet with a public IP address at my office. From home, I try to connect to it with the QuickVPN Client software provided with it. When I try to connect, these things happen: 1. The Security Association is established and the tunnel is brought up. 2. The QuickVPN software starts sending ICMP echoes through the tunnel to the remote LAN IP address. So these PINGs travel encripted as ESP packets, with QuickVPN sitting on the screen with a "Verifying network..." small window. 3. After 5 attempts, no single PING is apparently replied by the router, so QuickVPN gives up and warns that "The remote gateway is not responding". After providing an offer to wait or give up, I give up and it goes out. 4. During the PINGing process, I can see my tunnel connection up, through the Web administration access to the router. So, the connection is actually established, but as QuickVPN didn't get an answer it simply doesn't complete the VPN connection. At Cisco's Small Business Support Community, we have been discussing this, and most fellows suggest that the most probable cause is that the Windows 7 firewall is preventing QuickVPN to receive the reply packets. So I have been struggling with the firewall and inventing all sorts of incoming and outgoing rules for QuickVPN, which actually has all rights to send and receive all protocols, through all interfaces and all of all. I simply have been unsuccessful. I downloaded Wireshark, and I can see all the traffic between my laptop and the router. All is seen, even the ESP packets going out to the router, but I don't see any incoming reply ESP packets. This poses me the fact that maybe the router is indeed not responding, or the firewall really blocking them. I would appreciate if any of my dearest fellows in this forum could give me a hand. Thank you in advance.
