Connects to secure wi-fi but doesn't ask for password so can't use connection
If a wi-fi network requires a password, my xp computers say they are connected but don't give me the opportunity to enter a password. Therefore accessing the internet fails. This happened at a restaurant and also on my home network. It says "Windows was unable to find a certificate to log you on to the network <network name>". Is there a setting I need to change? And how do I get to it? (My iPod Touch and Kindle asked me for the password and were able to access the internet once I entered the password.)1 person needs an answerI do too

Hi Wideranging, a. What kind of encryption are you using on the router? b. Do you have the most recent drivers installed for your wireless network card? Ensure that IEEE 802.1x authentication of the wireless adapter is disabled and check if it helps. a. Click Start, then select Run. b. In the Run dialog box type ncpa.cpl and then click OK. c. Right-click the Wireless network connections icon, and then select Properties. d. Click the Wireless network tab. e. Click the Properties button beside Remove. f. Click the Authentication tab, and clear the Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network check box. g. Click OK to update the settings. This should take care of it. Keep me posted on the status of the issue. Regards,Divya R – Microsoft Support.Visit our Microsoft Answers Feedback Forum and let us know what you think.
