Controlling dial up connection on wireless ad hoc network
Hi, I have a three computer LAN, one computer running XP has a dial up internet connection and hosts the other two computers. One of the clients is running ME and is connected by ethernet to the host, the other client is a laptop running Vista and has a wireless ad hoc connection to the host. I have ics enabled on the host to allow other users on the network to control or disable the dial up connection. I have no problem with connecting and disconnecting the dial up connection remotely from the MEclient computer - allI have to do is right click on the residential gateway icon and the options are there. However, on the laptop there is no residential gatewayicon in system tray only a network bridge icon which shows a little globe within it to indicate internet connection. Right clicking on it gives no option to connect or disconnect the dial up connection. I can connect to the internet from the laptop but only after I initialize the connection from the host computer and I cannot disconnect with out doing the same. Am I missing something??? Or is this the way Vista is???

Hi Jim, If you are using ad hoc network, the ICS would be disconnected after following tasks. 1. You disconnect from the ad hoc network. 2. You create a new ad hoc network without disconnecting from the ad hoc network for which you enabled ICS. 3. You log off and then log back on (without disconnecting from the ad hoc network). The information is from the following instruction. Using ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-us/help/bfd3bd31-82f0-4b9c-9cde-fb92bc2b14771033.mspx

Hi Arthur, Thanks for your reply. I checked with the web page you quote above and I believe what it refers to is disabling ICS , not disconnecting the dial up connection on the host computer, which is whatI want to be able to do. Jim Mahaffy
