Copy files from Vista to XP Not Working
This issue has been driving me nuts; I have a laptop (not mine) that I am going to format; the laptop is currently running Vista Business and I want to put on XP; I've backed up all the files and there are 223 pictures files that won't copy to XP. Vista has them highlighted in green and when I right clicked on the file and clicked Properties, it said that the file was block so I unblocked the files (took a long time) and tried to transfer them again but still nothing. I'm getting "Can't copy file [FileName]: Access is denied" error. Does anyone know what Vista is doing to the file that is making it not able to copy to XP? Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get around this? I need this machine back up and running ASAP as it is a business machine. Thanks in advance, Corey

I finally figured it out. Files that are green mean that they are encrypted. So here's what I did to get rid of the encryption (can't believe it worked). The drive had two partitions, one for the OS and one for the recovery. The recovery partition uses FAT32 and not NTFS. So, I copied the files from the OS partition to the recovery partition, then I took a thumbdirve/jumpdrive/flashdrive (whatever you call them) and copied the files there (used FAT32 as well). When I went to copy them to the flashdrive, Vista asked if I'd like to copy the file and trash the encryption on it. Obviously I said yes and there it was. I did find out that in order for this to work the other drives/partitions must have FAT32 and not NTFS.
