Copy incoming faxes to Network folder
We are replacing a Windows XP Pro machine with a Windows 7 Enterprise. We have a modem set up on this machine to recieve incoming faxes. The fax setup is similar in both OS's. We need it set up to put a copy of the incoming faxes as a tif file into a network
folder. It works fine with Windows XP when giving the computer write rights to the network folder. And it works fine with making the copy of the fax in a local drive.
When we attempt to automatically save the copy of the file to the network drive in the Windows 7 computer, we get an error message: "The folder specified does not exist. Since the folder specified is located on a remote computer, create the folder manually
and assign it access permissions for the Fax Service. Press Help for more information." Clicking on Help does absolutely nothing. I have created the folder manually, but there is no indication on how to assign it access permissions for the Fax Service. And
for the life of me, I cannot find any instructions on how to do this.
The wording of the error message is also quite peculiar. Basicially it is telling one to create a folder and “give the folder” access to the fax
service. That seems reversed to the normal paradigm of creating a resource and giving a service or user object access to the resource.
Thanks for any help.

Hi Sabrina,
When using the Windows Fax and Scan in Windows 7, it is not configured exactly the same as in Windows Server 2008. It is close. But there is no option to enable the feature to save a copy to a network folder. When telling it to save to a network folder,
it error out. Just like the error above.
It gives a non descriptive answer to what should be done; but what it says makes no sense and does not give any instruction on how to do it.
Please read and advise:
"The folder specified does not exist. Since the folder specified is located on a remote computer,
create the folder manually and assign it access permissions for the Fax Service. Press Help for more information."
Doing a search through Google and on Technet has resulted in only people with the exact same issue and no resolution.

Did you ever find an answer for this? I am attempting the EXACT thing you were and at the same spot. Going to set up a Synctoy in the meantime, but that just seems silly to have to do.
Thanks

I'm guessing there still hasn't been a resolution to this? I read the article posted by Sabrina, but it didn't answer the problem. I have tried specifying the target folder using \\<network device>\<folder>. That gives a different
error: "Invalid Folder". Every way I've tried mapping the target network folder results in the same error message posted by YoungJedi.
The only solution I can see around it is the same as mentioned by jkhweb, using synctoy or similar, which is just ridiculous.
I haven't been able to find a way to set permissions for the Fax Service which the error message seems to suggest. But to be honest, I can't tell what that ridiculous error message is trying to say.
If someone could shed some light on this that would be awesome.
Thank you
