Copying EFS files to network share very slow
Hi, I have a Vista Business client that VPNs into a partner's network and maps a drive letter to a shared folder on one of their file servers. Now, our client has to copy sensitive documents to this network drive and as such they are encrypted with EFS. I've noticed that when copying these files to the network drive, it is very slow. Also, the user is prompted to replace an existing file even though there is no other file there. This "existing file" is 0KB in size. After the user confirms to replace it, they are prompted to copy the file without encryption which is alright with us, because once it is on the network share, our partners take over security. So, I am wondering why this is? I am sure it is related to EFS, because if I disable EFS on the files before copying, the files are copied quickly and without being asked if I want to replace an existing file. For added details, this is Vista Business SP2 and the files are usually less than 1MB in size so we are are not talking about large file transfers here. Thanks for any help.
