Could not reconnect all network drives
My laptop is getting the message "Could not reconnect all network drive", at start-up. I'm running Windows XP, service pack 3. I have an allocated network drive 'Z' that is labeled 'memory_card'.Does this drive need to be connected? If so, what are the steps. When I try to open this network drive, I get the message " An error occured while reconnecting "Z": to \\HP(serial number)\memory_card ".Thanks,

My guess is that you have a HP Printer that has a memory card slot. If you do not have a properly formatted memory card in this slot, you will not be able to connect to it even though it has been mapped. If you do have a properly formatted memory card in the slot and you still cannot access it, then try re-installing the HP software package that came with your printer.HTH, JW

Hi JW,Thanks for the response, but I don't understand. I thought this network drive was extra memory for my laptop, in addition to my RAM. I never created this network drive. I do have an HP printer and it works fine. Why would I need a memory card for my printer? I thought this network drive was virtual memory. Thanks

I have a HP Photosmart Printer. It has memory card slot(s) in it so that you can remove memory cards from cameras, insert them into the printer, then print photos directly from the Memory card without the need for a computer. However, when you install the printer software from HP onto your computer, the printer software will map the memory card slots to a drive (The Z: drive in my case, and labeled exactly as you describe). This can allow you to copy photos from the camera memory card that you plug into your printer directly onto your computer's hard drive. With no memory card inserted into the printer, the drive still shows up under "My Computer" but any attempt to access it will fail because there is no card in the slot. This is normal. As you can see this drive under "My Computer", this might not be the drive that you are getting the connection error for. See if the System Log has more detail as to which drive is not connecting at startup (Start -> Run -> "eventvwr.msc").In Windows, virtual memory is handled transparently and you will not see it as a drive.HTH, JW
