Credential Manager service won't start
My computer crashed 2 hours ago and now the Credential Manager service won't start anymore. This means I can't start Visual Studio (on start, I get this message: "Invalid license data. Reinstall is required.") or Windows Live Messenger (the service Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant cannot start). When I try to start the service from the services manager, I get the following error: "Error 0x8009000b: Key not valid for use in specified state." When I try to go in Control Panel > Credential Manager, I get this: "Error Code: 0x80070425 Error Message: The service cannot accept control messages at this time." and then it shows a blank page. So far, I've tried to run the command line "sfc /scannow" but it didn't improve the situation. Restarting the computer did not too. The problem seems to recover by itself over time since this is not the first time it happens on my computer. I suspect corrupted files. I'm currently running Windows 7 Pro x86 RTM on some not so recent hardware (Intel Pentium 4, 2GB RAM, ATI HD3870). All Windows Updates available are installed. Normally I would reinstall Windows for that kind of problem, but I cannot right now. So, is there a way to reset the "state" of the credential manager? or at least getting it working again quickly. Thanks, Etienne

Hi, Did you try to use Last Known Good Configuration to test? Or you could create a new user account to check the result. Using Last Known Good Configuration Create a user account Also, you could try to use the command “Net start VaultSvc” to start the service. Meanwhile, please check the related dependencies of the service. Hope it helps.
