CyberDefender Sleazy Activity
I recently reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled Windows XP Home Edition and installed avast! Antivirus and Trend Micro Web Protection Add-On. My computer has been acting normal, until... Yesterday, when visiting AOL Mail, Trend Micro WPAO gave me an alert of "Detected DNS Query of Malicious Domain." Well, I doubted it was serious. This application does tend to have false positives. Once it blocked Microsoft.com and PBS.org. That was yesterday. Today (actually a few minutes ago) an alert came up saying that it had blocked access to some cyberdefender site. I had no programs or browsers opened yet, and have never visited the site. Upon Google searching cyberdefender, I found it was a big scam. WOT gave it red warnings, so I didn't enter, and read a McAfee SiteAdvisor blog about it, accusing it of scamming and viruses. I had seen both warnings before, when I had a bot. Since that time, I have reinstalled Windows twice. I have SP3 and all current updates. I never use Internet Explorer. I use avast! Free Antivirus, Trend Micro Web Protection Add-On, and Windows Firewall. I am planning on installing ZoneAlarm Firewall soon. Any suggestions or tips on what's going on here? Could it merely be something like a Trojan horse that tries to get to your computer, but is blocked? Any programs that might help? Thanks.
