DNS server isn't responding
When I have the DNS manually set to 208.67.220.220, both pings work, but when I have the DNS set to automatically choose pinging www.google.com times out. However, even with the DNS set manually it can't load pages and I get the same error when troubleshooting. The DNS servers it chooses automatically are 24.159.162.23, 24.178.162.3, and 97.81.22.195. I'm not sending this from my laptop due to this issue, so I can't put the entire ipconfig results, and it may be a couple of days before I can go somewhere else to get access on it

This seems to be a popular problem, even though it is immensely frustrating. I can't connect to any websites, and programs that require internet connection to run (Steam, etc.) will not work. I have downloads going from before this issue and they work fine. I tried to troubleshoot and got the eponymous error message. I have tried the fix where I go to the adapter settings and change the default DNS to 208.67.222.222 and 220 to no avail. I also disabled the Microsoft virtual WiFi miniport connection adapter. I have tried configuring the adapter for the 802.11 Preamble : Long only, power cycled the router/modem, and restarted the computer. None of the fixes I have found online have worked so far. I should mention that this is not a universal problem for my laptop. It connects beautifully everywhere I go, save for my house. This is where it runs into the error. There are four other computers all connected to the same router/modem without any problems: three are Windows 7 and one is a Mac. If anyone has any ideas I would love or you to enlighten me.

Hi, This DNS error means that one or more of your defined DNS servers can't be contacted or isn't responding within the timeout period. According to your description, the other computers work normally, you could configure the DNS server with other computers’ to check how it works. To verify that it is a DNS issue, when the problem occurs at your house: Please ping 8.8.8.8 and see if it times out or replies. The ping www.google.com and see if it time out or replies. Also, do an IPCONFIG /ALL when you are at home and it's not working and another when you are away and it is working. Please post the results here.
