DRIVE DISAPPEAR IN THE NETWORK SHORTLY AFTER START UP
"I have 3 computers in my local network. Each one is shared and allow anyone to gain access to it. However, when I try looking into another computer it tells me that it is not accessible and I might not have permission to use the network resource. I have shared the folders to everybody and within the group anyone should be able to read the files. It also was saying there is not enough server storage to process the command. My network is on a DSL router and there is not server as such. So I do not quite understand what the problem is."First let me say thanks to JW who suggested an answer to the "not enough space in server".While I have made change to the registry and increase the size, but it did not help resolving the problem not seeing the other computer in the network. One thing I did not mentioned is that there is one computer in my local network, I can see it there in the network when that particular machine first started up.However, after a few minutes, it disappeared from the network. When I do a search in the network using the IP address that it was assigned by the router, it cannot be found anymore. That is another problem I am puzzling about and hope any one can help. 1 person needs an answerI do too

Hi"not enough server storage to process the command", means truoble on the computer that you are working on at the time. Not seeing another computer, or permission problem to connect, means Sharing problems on the computer that you are trying to connect to.Sharing on Win XPMake sure that the Software Firewall on each computer allows free local traffic. If you use 3rd party Firewall On, Vista/XP Native Firewall should be Off, and the active Firewall has to adjusted to your Network IP numbers on what is some time called the Trusted Zone (consult your 3rd Party Firewall instructionsGeneral example, http://www.ezlan.net/faq#trustedPlease Note that some 3rd party Software Firewalls keep blocking aspects of Local Traffic even it they are turned Off (disabled). If possible configure the Firewall correctly, or totally uninstall it to allow clean flow of local network traffic. If the 3rd party software is uninstalled or disables, make sure that Windows native Firewall is On .Windows XP File Sharing - http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;304040Printer Sharing XP - http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/expert/honeycutt_july2.mspxWindows Native Firewall setting for Sharing XP -http://support.microsoft.com/kb/875357In Win XP pro you can Visually see the Permission/Security setting, and configure them to your liking.http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/security/learnmore/accesscontrol.mspx#securityTabWhen finished with the setting of the system it is advisable to Reboot all the hardware including the Router and all computers involved.**Note . All users that are allowed to share need to have account onall the computers that they are allowed to connect to.Everyone is an account, it means a group of all of the users that already have an account and been established as users. It is available to avoid the need of configuring permission to each on its own, it does not mean Everyone that feel that they would like to login. Jack-MVP Windows Networking. WWW.EZLAN.NET

Thanks for the advice. Before I go through all the procedures to check and set the settings in the firewall/antivirus programs, I must also give you some more information about my network. I have a Dlink DNS-323 network drive connected to my network. I have no problem accessing it from any of the computers. The setting for the network access is quite straight forward. No firewall is set in there to block any access. I guess this is somewhat different from the other PC in my network.

HiDlink DNS-323 is a stand alone NAS device that is much simpler than a computer with full OS. Its performance is Not an indicator to what is going on sharing wise on the computers. If it can be accessed it means that the Network hardware is working OK, and that Sharing and permission on the DNS-323 are configured correctly. It does not mean that the Sharings are configured correctly on the Network computers. Jack-MVP Windows Networking. WWW.EZLAN.NET
