Dart Tools and Windows 7 Enterprise
Anyone using the ERD Commander generated ISO with Windows 7 Enterprise (from the MDOP tool DART)? My scenerio is vPro boot redirect to the MSDart iso. Once I get to the Tools screen there are a handful of options like "Uninstall Hotfix" that list "Tool requires a supported offline OS". The other tools that are available appear to work fine with the exception of the registry editor which states it edits the recovering OS which seems to me that it would default to the offline OS when in reality it just opens a registry editor for PE and you must go mount the registry files to access the offline OS registry, but I can live with that. Everywhere I read says that the other tools should work. I am using Dart 6.5 which clearly states Windows 7/Server 2008 R2 support. ;-) Maybe I am doing something wrong??

Hi, Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet forums. Please refer to the following statement: “Some data may not be available on computers where the drive letters are remapped. This problem can occur on BitLocker enabled computers and multi-boot computers. This occurs because some information in the offline registry has hard-coded drive letters, and Microsoft DaRT uses different letters for the same volumes. The typical effects include not having access to certain local user accounts in ERD Registry Editor or Autoruns. Additionally, some tools may not be able to get properties that rely on resolving file paths.” From http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee460920.aspx Best Regards Magon Liu TechNet Subscriber Support in forum. Yes this is resolved. :-) I am using 6.5 of Dart which per the help files added support for Windows 7/2008 R2 and removed support for Vista/XP (for mounting the local OS into the tool). Before I read that I was booting an XP machine which would not find the hard drive on the first mounting screen. I decided to be "smart" and modify the startnet.cmd to bypass that screen and go directly into the menu of tools. Which appeared to have solve my pesky no mount issue :-/ Was obviously (now) the underlying issue for my question above. After setting the startnet.cmd stuff back and booting to a Windows 7 OS I realized the mounting piece (critical to the offline OS tools of course) worked great. Just have to bypass the screen in XP and all is right with the world. ;-) Curious though, this is the first time I have used this tool, do the older version(s) allow for better functionality with legacy OS's? I am planning on adding the previous version as an option to pick when redirecting an XP box (for me its vPro IDE redirect) to see the differences but wondering if anyone else recommends/has feedback on this? Thanks!
