Different results when connecting xbox to win vista vs. win 7. please help.
not sure if this is the right place, but im beyond desperate. Before i begin and to prevent the usual "goto the xbox site that talks about ics" link, ive already done what it told me. so heres my situation.
I have connected my xbox 360 to my computers LAN port and enabled ICS, setup a static IP for both and it worked with AT&T mobile broadband. The NAT is moderate, but after months of searching im assuming thats a ISP issue as i have all the required ports forwarding to the XBOX IP address.
Then i got windows 7, and set it up the exact same way, but now only the friends list, and the "my xbox" (or what ever its called) part of the dashboard loads on xbox, and it says the other content will become available when it...comes available. I cant download updates or anything. and cant talk to or connect to party or friends private chat. I am able to in vista even in a moderate NAT. Its not xbox servers as I can dual boot back to vista and it works fine. Ive tried everything from turning off Kaspersky to a complete reinstall. I get the same results on my win 7 thinkpad. So SOMTHING in windows 7 is different vs win vista that xbox does not like. I dont know if its a group policy or service or what. Windows firewall is disabled, but i went ahead and let everything through it just in case.
THINGS IVE NOTICED BUT DONT KNOW HOW TO FIX:
1. IPv6 is not availble as a protocol in the AT&t mobile broadband connection in the network and sharing center, it was in vista, but i know xbox uses ipv4 so i dont know if that makes a difference. any one know how to extract it from vista and put it on windows 7?
2. I can turn off windows firewall in servies, but then i cant use ICS, which is weird, so maybe windows firewall is still blocking some stuff even though its off?
3.I now connect to a linksys router, and my NAT is now open on xbox, but i think this is a "false open"(what ever you'd call it.) i still get the same thing either connected directly via lan, or through router. (got the router to connect computer to my thinkpad)
4. I can uncheck everything in ICS (note: i said UNcheck) and it still connects in vista no problem, the same goes for windows 7 (still get the problem im talking about here though) but basically unchecking those doesnt seem to change anything. for better or worse.
anyways, sorry for the long question, im hoping sombody can help me. Please dont direct me to a link if you can help it, i would really appreciate some step by step instructions. I dont think its port forwarding cause i can turn off kaspersky and it still does it. anyways, heres the IPs of everything and their setup without the router installed as its not causing problems i think my problem is on my computers end (since it works in vista and not 7): thanks again.
Xbox 360 ip: 169.254.21.20
Mask: 255.255.0.0
Gate: 169.254.101.233
DNS: 169.254.101.233
Computer LAN ip: 169.254.101.233
Mask: 255.255.0.0
Gate: none (ISP is dynamic IP so i cant assign a gateway to my modem since it changes)
ICS enabled, with the "name of ip or computer hosting this service" set as the xbox's ip with both internal and external ports as this:
1900 udp
3074 tcp
3074 udp
3390 tcp
3776 udp
3932 tcp
5555 tcp
7777 udp
88 tcp
So, thats all. I really hope you guys can help me. if not then i will of officially given up. please help me!
