Disable WPAD Discovery
Hi Please can someone explain how to totally disable WPAD discovery on Windows 7 (Enterprise x32) with IE8. I have removed the ticks from "Automatically detect settings" and "Use automatic configuration script" from IE LAN settings dialog. Have also diabled the "WinHTTP Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Service", and configured GPO to "Disable caching of Auto-Proxy scripts" and "Disable changing Automatic Configuration settings". Netsh winhttp show proxy returns "Direct Access (no proxy server)". Running a wireshark trace when connecting to a new network reveals the machine is still sending out DNS queries for WPAD & WPAD.domain etc, so I think there must be some other requirement to totally disable the WPAD discovery mechanism. ThanksDouks
