Unless you have the knowledge to download and run legitimate Anti Virus and malware scanning tools you might want to take your PC to a 'knowledgable' expert.Of course you could use your winxp recovery cd to start afresh, but you would lose everything currently on the PC, and I assume you have never backed up data

Yes, Palcouk, your assumption is correct. So far, I had not taken any backup & so i am not interested to use recovery CD of XP. Actually i did a little blunder. Initially, even after infection, when Windows tools were disabled, i could access safe mode & during safe mode I ran a portable version of a good A.V. The antivirus did remove some 375+ viruses including conficker worms. but I didn't think about installing/scanning with an antimalware. I lost safe mode access immediately after next reboot. Subsequently I installed Malwarebytes' free ver. antimalware in normal mode & scanned through it, but i didn't get any help. You have mentioned about legitimate AV & Malware. I am having a copy of free ver. of Avira Antivir & also Malwarebytes' v1.46 in my pen drive, but i feel scanning with any such product would be useless unless done in safe mode. Are you referring any other antimalware software/external scanning? If yes, please tell me the names so that i can download it immediately. At least virus/malware was kind enough in permitting internet access to me till date. Thanks & regards,JG Paul

try doing a full scan with MBAM while your computer is running in safe modeacutally nvm, you said you lost safe mode :-/looks like you might have to do a full restore pretty soon

Hi Aaron,I already mentioned that now:i) I cannot go to safe mode ii) I cannot utilise Windows tools including system restore.Since my hands were tied up, my installation & full scan of MBAM in normal mode became useless, which i have already mentioned. If you have any other solution, pl. tell me.However, thanks to you for replying.JG Paul

Assuming you want to save data, you will need a second PC to connect your HD to, before if neccessary you take the nucleur option.Avira and malwarebytes are both decent tools

Hi Aaron,I already mentioned that now:i) I cannot go to safe mode ii) I cannot utilise Windows tools including system restore.Since my hands were tied up, my installation & full scan of MBAM in normal mode became useless, which i have already mentioned. If you have any other solution, pl. tell me.However, thanks to you for replying.JG PaulI am a little confused as to why you would say scanning with MBAM in normal mode was useless. Actually, Malwarebytes recommends using the scanner in normal mode. The only exception is when the running process of the malware cannot be terminated either through taskmgr or a malware process terminator such as rkill or kill box. In such an instance the computer can be booted in safe mode since the process for most malware will not load in safe mode. Your circumstances regarding the boot mode you are able to access is backwards from the common. Most times it is normal mode which cannot be accessed hence the use of safe mode. You have several options here. You could, as noted by Palcouk connect the hdd to another computer and scan it. Second, you could create a live cd. There are a number of antivirus software creators which offer their product on bootable disc. This is done by downloading the ISO image then burning it to a disc. An ISO image burning software is needed for this. You could also use an online scan such as ESET for example. Finally, which is what I would do if it were me, is to download Highjack This to determine exactly what is running on the computer and to delete invalid entries. If you are not very familiar with what you are doing and do not know how to read log files, I would recommend you post your Highjack This log on the free computer support forum on the link below and get the log analyzed there. Removing the wrong entry can create the need to reformat and reinstall windows.
