Disappearing User Profile
I was looking into setting up my Windows 7 Ultimate computer to go directly to the desktop instead of going through the log on screen first. I was able to do it but when I switched it back my account, the only user, was a guest account. By going through Safe Mode I was able to create a new administrator account and log on. My old user does not show up at logon. When I go to the Control Panel Users it isn't listed. When I go to C:\Users it is listed. It does not have a lock icon. The other two users do have the lock. If I use the command prompt to run Control userpasswords2 and uncheck needs password I get my profile back but it is again a guest account with no password and the new users I created are not listed. I don't want to delete all users and recreate because I don't want to rebuild my desktop. I can restore from a backup but I want to know how to fix this in case it happens to a client I support who, in spite of my nagging, has not done a recent backup.

Search for "lusrmgr.msc". Here you control what groups will appear, account level passwords etc.

How do you setup the auto-logon? Maybe there are incorrect changes that would cause this issue. Please let us know detail information.Arthur Xie - MSFT
