Disk Mirroring on Windows 8

I've spent a frustrating couple of days trying to get raid 1/disk mirroring working on Windows 8.  Finally I tried using Diskpart, which gave me the informative message

The command you selected is not available with this version of Windows.

Before receiving that message, I had found dozens of web pages, including some here at microsoft.com, explaining how to set up disk mirroring.  Not one of them mentioned that I needed Windows 8 Pro.  In everything I've read about the differences between the Windows 8 editions, there is nothing mentioned that seems to be related to this capability.

Mostly, I just want to rant because I'm so annoyed at having wasted so much time -- why would the writers of all those articles not mention such a crucial detail!? -- but is there a complete, concise list of the differences between the Windows 8 editions?  Is there an alternative disk mirroring solution for Windows 8?

Why are not buying an upgrade to Win8 Pro? Here in Germany I saw a lot of cheap upgrade offers.

I've had the same frustrating in 8.1, I was wondering why that option was never available in Disk Management.  Do you know if this feature is still left out of Windows 10 Home, and only available in Windows 10 Professional?

It's funny they give you Storage Spaces in 8.1 Home which has mirroring for the non-boot drive, but leave mirroring out of the Home edition.
