Display keeps randomly resetting to lowest resolution
My display keeps changing to the lowest resolution and color settings. I have tried resetting the display options but after I hit apply instead of resetting to the new setting it goes bak to the lowest setting. The only way to change it is to turn off and on the computer after which the displayis normal again. The problem seems to happen when switch between users or after the screen goes to sleep and logging back on. The screen resolution changes for both users accounts.2 people need an answerI do too

Download/install the latest drivers for your video card. See below for general drivers information. If updating the drivers doesn't help, then most probably your video card is failing. Swap it out with a known-working video card to test. Never get drivers from Windows Update. Get them from: 1. The device mftr.'s website; OR 2. The motherboard mftr.'s website if hardware is onboard; OR 3. The OEM's website for your specific machine if you have an OEM computer (HP, Dell, Sony, etc.). Read the installation instructions on the website where you get the drivers. To find out what hardware is in your computer: 1. Read any documentation you got when you bought the computer. 2. If the computer is OEM, go to the OEM's website for your specific model machine and look at the specs (you'll be there to get the drivers anyway) 3. Download, install and run a free system inventory program like Belarc Advisor or System Information for Windows. http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html - Belarc Advisor http://www.gtopala.com/ - System Information for WindowsMS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

Just in case people are still having an issue with this problem, pls find below a solution which worked for me.. I've spent the last mth trying to solve this problem and "youemailme" (another thread herein) had the correct fix for me!! And so Simple!I have noticed on Blogs that this issue has been around at least since Win98 so it's not your O/S.The issue appear to be certain program(s) in your Start up Menu that has a different screen resolution set, thereby causing the screen resolution to change when you start your computer. So it's not a MicroSoft program error but rather a 'settings' issue. With me what worked were 2 things:(1) Perform the "clean boot process" as advised by many to determine which software program(s) was causing the problem.. and then,(2) Right-click on the 'problem' program (as discovered in above) name in Start Menu>Properties>Compatibility. For some reason, there's an option to "run in 640x480 screen resolution", which was checked. This particular program was in the startup folder, and was the cause of the problem. Then unchecked the resolution box. No more problem.I see there are a huge number of people battling this exact issue. Hopefully this 2 step process can resolve their issues.(ps, Just thinking about it now, you can perhaps not even bother with the "clean boot process" but simply go thru all your programs in your Start Menu and perform the 2nd stage explained above. Should work?)CheersStephen
