It's generally not recommended to run similar programs in real time as they tend to cause slowdowns and potential conflicts. In your case that would be AVG and Microsoft Security Essentals as they pretty much do the same thing. Perhaps you should just pick one of them and uninstall the other. If you want to keep both of them installed, disable the real time protection in one of them. You can do that in AVG by turning off the Resident Shield and in MSE, turn off real time protection under the settings tab.Microsoft Security MVP, 2004 - 2009

Thank you that answers my question. I have unistalled freeAVG and seeemed to have got a fair bit of disc space back.
