Do Updates Affect Windows 7 Security Settings?
Does installing Windows 7 updates affect your security settings? When I first installed Windows 7 Ultimate on my HP laptop, I used the most restrictive Security Settings on the Local Security Policy, and I eliminated all remote access and remote update permissions. I also deleted the drivers for the Ethernet connection and the web cam. I have had a problem with hackers so I wanted to lock the laptop down as tightly as possible. I also pulled out the wifi card. The only online access I use is though tethering by my Verizon Blackberry. I recently discover that the Ethernet drivers have somehow reappeared and the web cam is now active. Have I been hacked? Or could this have happened when I ran normal Windows updates from the Microsoft site? Is there some way to keep the security settings and local security policy stable?Marly Manning HappinessHabit.com

Because the drivers for the network adapter and camera are included in Windows 7 system. Although you have deleted the driver, it will be reinstalled by Windows 7. The best way is disabling the devices in Device Manager.
