Duplicate names on network
I have a desktop PC running xp home and a laptop running 7 professional. They have been networked together quite happily until today.I turned the xp machine on and I got an error message telling me I have duplicate names on the network I know this is not so as one is named "office" and the other "laptop" the workgroup for both is "soho".On the laptop "office" no longer appears in windows explorer. On the xp machine neither "office" or "laptop" appear in my network places and they used to!On the xp machine if I do a search in"computers or people" they appear!1 person got this answerI do too

HiIn addtion look if your Router can do IP reservation. If it can, switch it On, when every thing is working as it should, configure both PCs in the Reservation Table.By doing so both computer will always be assigned with the same IP, and it will Not "confuse" the Network.
