EFS encryption and Software Licensing Service
SLsvc is a new service in Vista and is taking up resources (10MB+ working set) while not doing anything valuable for me.I have Vista Ultimate. I use EFS.In Windows XP Pro SP3 (my main OS), EFS works without the need for arbitrary extra programs, apart from lsass etc. obviously. In Vista Ultimate, however, *writing* EFS doesn't work without this extra process SLsvc running - reading still works. How can I enable writable EFS without wasting resources on SLsvc?-- Barry

Hi Barry, I'm afraid we cannot disable the service. I'd like to inform you that Windows Vista uses version 3 of the $EFS stream and Windows XP uses version 2. Windows Vista updates the $EFS stream on encrypted files to version 3. As a result, we can expect some differences between Windows Vista and Windows XP on EFS.
