After being prompted many times by Microsoft update, I finally decided to install service pack 3. It took longer than expected, but I was probably in need of the service pack plus all the updates.After the computer restart, there was a window on my desktop saying AirGCFG.exe Entry Point Not Found, followed by information about dynamic link library wlanapi.dllThe window goes away after clicking OK twice, but always returns when I start up my computer. Help please.

Thanks Steve, now I know what is causing the error message.I have been to the D-Link site and downloaded their suggested Service pack 3 driver update for the wireless adapter. I unzipped the file and clicked Run; after restarting the computer I still had the same error message on desktop. I realised that it was probably my fault because I had forgotten to connect the adapter to a USB port on my computer. So I put adapter into USB, double clicked the D-link set up icon again, clicked run, and after a very quick install I restarted the computer again, and unfortunately the message was still there.What am I doing wrong, is there a correct way to do this, I have rechecked the D-Link site, but couldn't find any helpful advice.Please note, my computer knowledge isn't that high.

I have spent a long time looking at the D-Link site, I even sent a help email, but no reply. I have looked at other forums and it seems to be a common error, with many fixes offered, some too difficult for me, to easier tasks like disabling the error message from startup menu, or removing service pack 3, completely and going back to service pack 2. So do I really need SP 3, my computer was OK before.

Is this where you looked for D-Link stuff:http://www.dlink.com/support/faq/There is an article that is not your exact error message, but close... and occurs after an SP3 update.I don't have their stuff, but after some readings, I think the best advice would be to download the correct package for your unspecifed device What is your device), completely uninstall the D-Link stuff you have now, reboot, and then install the latest D-Link SP3 compatible stuff you downloaded. Merely installing the new stuff over the top of your old stuff may not do it.The problem (I thnk) is that your current D-Link installation is pre SP3. Many things got better in SP3 and the old D-Link files on your system don't work exactly right anymore (some of them do), so you need to uninstall all the D-Links stuff (not install over the top of it), reboot and reinstall from scratch the new D-Link stuff that has SP3 awareness. There are plenty of happy Internet endings with this story - and way too much try, try, try, try this, might be, maybe that, could be type stuff too. It is ridiculous.Don't guess what the problem might be - figure it out and fix it. I need YOUR votes and points for helpful replies and Propose as Answers. I am saving up for a pony!

Thanks for your reply, so far it seems to be the best answer for the problem, and one I can handle. Yes, that is the D-link support site I used, that led me to the 2 driver updates for my D-link DWL-G122 USB wireless adapter.My initial problem was, I couldn’t find out when the adapter had to be connected to the USB port, before or after installing the updates. Also, I didn’t uninstall the pre Windows SP 3 wireless adapter software, I didn’t realise I had to do that, I just thought the new overwrote the old, my mistake.So will the update include all that I have uninstalled plus some sort of modification?thanks, from Mike

If it was me, I would (I'm adding a step or two), make a System Restore Point of your system as it is. (Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore).Then I would look at your current D-Link configuration settings and make a few notes or print screens - like any WEP encrypted passwords if you have them. It would be nice not to have to figure all the setup, get me connected, what is my password stuff again if it took a long time before. Make note of the way things are now since it sounds like it works okay except for this annoyance.Download the PDFs for your adapter installation from their WWW page to your computer so you will have them to read in case you can't get back on the Internet right away and get their tech support contact information (just in case!).Uninstall the old stuff, reboot and reinstall the new stuff using their Quick Start Guide which you already downloaded before or already have from before.I downloaded the ZIP file to see if there was some kind of readme file in there with additional instructions, but just found the Setup.exe which of course detects no D-Link stuff in my configuration. I browsed their installation guide but it doesn't apply to me.I would just repeat the installation process you used originally - as if your system had no D-Link stuff in the first place.You can do it!Don't guess what the problem might be - figure it out and fix it. Thank you Jose, the task is done, and so far seems successful. I’ve rebooted a couple of times without getting the AirGCFG "entry point not found" startup message.I followed your instructions, including the very important restore point. I didn’t find it easy, the first obstacle was making notes of the configuration settings. Each time I tried to open the settings, all I got was a return of the “entry point not found” message; so I decided to go ahead without that step.Next problem, for me, I didn’t realise I had to load the D-Link wireless adapter CD to uninstall the original pre S.Pack 3 driver. Once I figured that out, everything was just a case of following your instructions and the onscreen instructions.So a big thank you from Mike. P.S. one final question, can I now delete the downloaded D-Link files from my desktop?

Good job and I am glad you got it figured out.I think you would be safe to remove the downloaded items from your desktop. You could move them to some out of the way folder or put them on a CD then delete them from the desktop if you think you might have to do the reinstall again some other day, but now you are an expert!Don't guess what the problem might be - figure it out and fix it.
