Erroneous DNS entry
I have been batteling a DNS issue with a Vista Business Laptop. Suddenly the user is having issues connecting to certain internal resources. As I was digging for possible causes I found a dns entry that I cannot delete, edit or otherwise get rid of. When you open the tcp/ip v4 properties and than choose advanced and click on the DNS tab I have an entry that has about 6 or 8 dns servers listed with semicolons seperating them. 2 of the ip addresses are repeated 3 times. I cannot get this entry removed or edited and it is causing some issues with internal access for this user. Any suggestions is greatly appreacite. I have a screen shot that I can share as well if needed to help explain the situation. Thanks,ZachZach

Hi Zach, Before moving on, could you please confirm following points? 1. You mentioned the entry cannot be removed or edited, could you please let me know detail information? Is there a error message received when trying to remove or edit the entry? Or just a gray button? 2. Does the computer in a domain? If so, only this computer has the problem? 3. If possible, could you please post the screenshot on the forum? At this time, I suggest you delete the entry from registry. 1. Click Start, type regedit and press Enter. 2. Navigate to HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\ Choose your network adapter GUID and delete incorrect DNS entry from NameServer on right panel. 3. Navigate to HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\ Choose your network adapter GUID and delete incorrect DNS entry from NameServer on right panel. 4. Restart the computer to test whether the issue is resolved or not. Hope it helps.

I cannot get the image posted. I am not sure if I am missing something here or what. I am rather new to this forum, but don't see any way to attach a file and I tried to copy and paste it into this box.Anyways, I deleted the information in the registry that you have recommended and it took care of the problem. Do you know what would cause this? I had this happen once before on a different laptop. I had other issues with that unit so I ended up reloading windows. Thanks for your help.Zach

Hi Zachs, Regarding the screenshot, you canupload the screenshot to Windows Live SkyDrive (http://www.skydrive.live.com/) and share the URL with us. Regarding my suggested steps, normally, it won't cause any problem. Thanks.
