HiAre you trying to backup to CD/DVD? Windows XP cannot backup directly to CD/DVD. Try backing up to your hard drive first and then copying the backup .bkf file to the CD/DVD.Another option would be to use something like Nero's InCD or Roxio's DirectCD. You would then format the CD/DVD using one of these programs.MS Backup would then be able to backup directly to the CD/DVD.

Hi CurtisJG,· Were you able to use the Backup utility feature in Windows XP earlier?· Do you have any third party backup utility or system maintenance tool installed on your computer?Let’s try these steps and check if it helps.Method 1If you have any third party backup utility or system maintenance tool installed, you may uninstall them from Add or Remove Programs. Thereafter, try to backup and check if it works.Method 2You may choose any different Backup destination from the available list & check if you are able to backup files.Refer: How to use the Backup utility to back up files and folders in Windows XP Home EditionMethod 3You may also configure the computer in clean boot and then try to backup files. It will start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs and helps to eliminate software conflicts. The following link has steps showing how to perform clean boot: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353Note: Please ensure that the computer is set to start as usual by following the section ‘Steps to configure Windows to use a Normal startup state’ from the article: How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" state: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353Hope the information helps.
