Error 810 during VPN connection
Hello, I have a fresh Windows 7 Home Premium Installation. I tried to connect to my work place through VPN using L2TP connection and Private Certificate. I got an error message: "Error 810: A network connection between your computer and the VPN server was started, but the VPN connection was not completed. This is typically caused by the use of an incorrect or expired certificate" When I tried the same certificate on another Windows 7 Enterprise Edition, it works fine and without any problems. Also there is no problem on Windows XP Workstation (several PCs). But I have found also problem on another Windows 7 Home Premium and on Windows Vista Home. Is there any limitation in Windows 7 and Vista Home Premium edition, so I cannot use L2TP IPSEc with EAP Authentication and Certificate published by our company (not public). Is there any idea? Regards, Lovro

· Hi, · Considering the error 810, please refer to: List of Error Codes that you may receive when you try to make a dial-up connection or a VPN connection in Windows Vista 810 A network connection between your computer and the VPN server was started, but the VPN connection was not completed. This is typically caused by the use of an incorrect or expired certificate for authentication between the client and the server. Please contact your Administrator to ensure that the certificate being used for authentication is valid. It should be related to the smartcard. Please check it first. If the issue persists, please also collect the RAS logs for our further research. RAS Logs ======= Note: The logs need to be collected before you start the connection setup. Execute the following from elevated command prompt on both computer(the one works and the one fails). 1. Run “netsh ras set tr * en” (without quotes). This enables logging. 2. Recreate the issue. 3. Run “netsh trace stop” (without quotes). 3. Run “netsh ras set tr * di” (without quotes). This disables logging. Please share the files, %systemdrive%\users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Temp\nettraces\nettrace.etl, nettrace.cab and %systemdrive%\windows\tracing\* with us.
