Error code 0x81000039
My problem is similar to some of the others who have posted with this code. However, I am trying to backup my system using the Windows backup program with my computer attached to a USB connected external hard drive. I get to a certain point in the backup procedure when I get the error code and the message that there is too much time taking place to connect to a remote desktop. I don't want to connect to some unknown remote desktop; I have disabled as many little things which want to connect to a remote desktop as I can find, including those parts of Windows 7 itself which appear to control a remote desktop connection. I have put a block on my router which connects to the internet, so that it will not permit a connection to or from a remote desktop. I am the only person using this computer, have no remote with which to connect, and do not use nor wish to use this Windows feature. I have had this computer now for about 6 or 7 weeks, and each time I have tried a backup, I get the same result. Sometimes it will give the Error code 0x80070002 with the same time out message. Each attempted backup results in one or another of these error codes plus the message that it cannot timely connect to a remote desktop even though it never will be able to connect to a remote desktop. When I backup using backup programs other than Windows 7 (such as Second Copy 7) , I have no trouble at all. What can I do to enable the Windows backup program to work?

This may seem a bit obvious, but why not forget about using the Backup that comes with Windows 7 and use one of the other retail programs like Acronis True Image or free one like Macrium Reflect (free) or DriveImage XML ? I use Acronis and am very happy with it. Does everything I want with no errors or problems.Rich
