Error code 80070424
What is this?My Windows Update stoped working yesterday. The program just says "error code 80070424" when I try to update manually.The problem is that I can't have the automatic update available. Can someone help me fix this?

Wilda08 Go to Start / All Programs / Accessories.Right Clickthe 'Command Prompt' item and click the 'Run As Administrator' option. In the Command Prompt window, Paste the following command. REGSVR32 %SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\WUAUENG.DLL Press ENTER. You should see a popup that says the command succeeded. Exit the command prompt and try Windows Update again. Let us know the results. I have the same problem and I already tried allthings that I found in the internet. I did your sugestion and the command was succeeded, but I still havethe error code 80070424. Before it I tried to reinstall the WUA using WindowsUpdateAgent20-x64.exe /wuforce, but despite the parameter 'wuforce' the program show me "Install is not needed since windows update agent is already installed." Please help me.

i have the same problem, hp laptop, vista home premium, do littlemore than listen to the sidebar radio @ work, i believe windows updated itself into no longer updating.

HiI too have had this trouble ,I entered the sentence into my command prompt and it was successful, howeverI have to repeat this everytimeI start up the computer, so i enter it everytime, until now it says:- The module "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\WUAUENG.DLL was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80070430, i have also tried the other comand prompt entries found in the other thread mentioned but it made no difference. is there any other ways to fix this, or is it just goin to be an ongoing problem. Ihave search for this new error code but returned no results, Any Ideas? Thanks Jaclyn

Hi Ronnie I had a loooong talk with a help desk from Microsoft about this issue. And we fould the following solution: in the Rededit we went into following sub folders: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM CurrectControlSet Services Here we saw that the folder "wuauserv" was missing after installing SP1 on my Vista 32bit. We found this folder on another machine and made a right click "Export". And on my machine we just 2xclicked on the Reg file and installed it again, and now it is in above mentioned subfolders under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM CurrectControlSet Services wuauserv After restarting the Windows Update - everything is running again. Oh boy, i posted in the wrong forum, but nwm that, i found a great solution for Vistaas following:"Press the start botton, then /all programs/accessories/ then right click the Command Promt and select "Run as administrator" then press continueCommand Promt will appear and copy this line string: REGSVR32 %SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\WUAUENG.DLLright click in the command promt window and left click paste in the menu.then a window should appear that says it's something like:Dll RegisterServer in C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\WUAUENG.DLL succeeded.then press okHope it will work

"regsvr32 wuaueng.dll" only worked till next reboot. After deleting "Valve System" in the startup entry's the problem was fixed. This was verry dificult and ican't remember how i did this. Also look for "sudhost.exe" to delete.

This is most definitely helping people. I had this problem for the first time today (Sept 03, 2008) on Win Vista Ultimate x86.I looked nearly everywhere for a solution, to no avail. Then I found your solution and it worked like a charm - couldn't believe it. I actually rebooted windows thinking "of course this won't work" and I was preparing myself spiritually to continue looking for a way to fix this thing. My Windows Update Stoped working monday. Hi The 'Run As Administrator' option only shows up on the right click menu when you right click a program. You will not see this option if you are simplyright clicking to opena folder (C:\Users) in Windows Explorer. You would need to open Windows Explorer with administrator privileges. I've followed the instructions to run the command as Administrator: REGSVR32 %SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\WUAUENG.DLL and it works. Be advised that you must restart your PC after running this procedure. Then youre updates will have the green light. Windows Vista Ultimate Edition http://pcOxygen.com

If youve ever had Symantec / Norton Antivirus on your system and it was not uninstalled cleanly, it could create this error. Try downloading and running the Norton Uninstaller Tool. If youre not sure if youve ever had Symantec on your system, run regedit and search for the word Symantec. If there are registry entries, its likely it was on your system at one point. I tried all the things others recommended without success. I couldn't even reinstall Windows Update Agent. This is the solution I figured out that worked for me.

I am happy your solution helped so many people. Unfortunately, I am not one of them.In fact, after using your solution, now I can't PRINT anything because it wiped out my Printer Spool!!!There is no longer a Print Spool task running.I suspect that something major has broken since I haven't been able to do a Windows Update in over a month now. I also have been getting the "Your Operating System may be counterfeit", even though it is a legal system that I bought and when I re-boot, Microsoft says it is a legal system.So there is a virus or worm somewhere in my system that is altering my software. So I don't blame your solution for my problem, just want to mention that there is something out there that will tear up the Vista Operating System (I am running Vista Ultimate 64-bit SP1). Now that I have lost the ability to update and now to print as well as getting the Counterfeit warning multiple times per day, it looks like it is time to reinstall VISTA.By the way, I was running McAfee Virus Protection so apparently whatever the bug is, they can't catch it before it does its damage yet. Again, I am happy for all the folks your fix has helped but want them to be aware there is a bug out there someplace and this error may be the first sign of it so if they have virus protection of any kind I would suggest that they scan their systems right away using theirs as well as Microsoft's, since even though McAfee's didn't find any suspect programs Microsoft's DID find three programs.

Kind regard, Michael Harmelink, MCP Since last time I saw Windows Update Error 80070424 caused by Windows Modules Installer service damaged.Make sure you have Windows Modules Installer service (don't mistake with Windows Installer althogh trouble with this service can also cause the same WU error) -if you don't have this service solution for this version of this error I posted also in this thread.It could be also trouble with BITS service.See my post here - two posts highly than your post

I thought I might mention that I had re-installed VISTA after it failed due to this error in March of 2009. It worked fine after that until about 2 months ago when the exact same thing happened. I began receiving the 80070424 error, then started getting the Counterfeit Software warning and finally lost my Printers again. Now that I am at VISTA Ultimate 64 bit SP2 level I can't even use the Windows VISTA repair facility from the install disk because it requires the system being repaired being at the same software level as the original install disk and since I am now at SP2 level, that is not the case. In the several years this problem has been messing people's systems up, Microsoft has not come up with a fix that actually works. So I am faced with another re-install of my operating system. This is about the third or fourth time I have had to do this and each time it takes me six months to fully restore all of the various software systems. This time though, I hope to install a 1 Terabyte hard drive so that once I have a clean system I will be able to do a complete backup of the system so that if it happens again, which I am sure it will, I will be able to restore the last good copy of the system instead of constantly having to re-install over and over again.

) REGSVR32 %SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\WUAUENG.DLL - confirmation box succeeded but it did not fix my Windows Update problem. 2) I've checked to see if my BiTS was correctly configured and everything of the sort and they are correctly configured without my intervention - works but it did not fix my Windows Update problem. 3) The BiTs restore tool thing, the one that repairs if it's corrupted or something - it said it's not needed currently so I'm assuming my files for Windows Update/BiTs aren't damaged in any way. 4) regsvr32.exe wuaueng.dll - confirmation box succeeded but it did not fix my Windows Update problem. 5) Regsvr32 QMGR.DLL - I'm suspecting this is the cause of my Windows Update not working properly as it returns a confirmation box that it was loaded but the entry-point DllRegisterServer was not founded with "Make sure that "'QMGR.DLL'" is a valid DLL or OCX file and then try again." 6) Click on Start -> Run and paste the command below and enter %SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\REGSVR32.EXE %SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\WUAUENG.DLL This line use to reregistering WUAUENG.DLL in window. You are done! Launch your windows update again, you should be able to perform update now. <-- this solution does not work at all, given me errors of a register binary for the REGSVR32.exe and no association part with WUAUENG.DLL. 7) windows update error 8E5E0442 - TechNet Forums - the second post by Ronnie Vernon MVP works but it does NOT solve my problem at all either. ** 8) Ran 3 antivirus scans (at different times) on thorough mode and found nothing. Used Malwarebyte's, Spyware Terminator, Ad-Aware, and SUPERANtispyware, and found zip.***

It's been since Feb. that I cannot update my windows. I tried "Go to Start / All Programs / Accessories. Right Click the 'Command Prompt' item and click the 'Run As Administrator' option. In the Command Prompt window, Paste the following command. REGSVR32 %SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\WUAUENG.DLL Press ENTER. You should see a popup that says the command succeeded. Exit the command prompt and try Windows Update again. Let us know the results. " In return, I get an error : 0x80070005. I was reading above about a file you are sending? Thank you so much!!! I have been spending a few hours a day (so I do not break this thing) trying to fix this automatic update error 0x80070424. I tried going through the website itself and many forums and fixes and couldn't find anything that worked/I felt safe trying. The command worked for me REGSVR32 %SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\WUAUENG.DLL But I just ran it by going to Start, Run then pasted in the command. I am running XP Service pak 3 Thanks for the solution. James
