Event 37 .... The speed of Processor limited by firmware .....

"The speed of processor 2 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for 71 seconds since the last report."

Viewer Actually I get four errors listed in Event Viewer (in a row).  Processor 0 thru Processor 3 ...

on start-up and periodically after that.

Intel has not been able to help ....... none of their tests have shown the processor to be defective. I also found out that today's bios allows almost no adjustments by the user ..... everything is hid.

I am beginning to question the messenger.

Does anyone know of the process in Windows that results in this Event Viewer error ?

In other words, from where is the message generated in Windows and how is an error dtermined to be present ?

Thanks and Best Wishes ....

The problem is related to Intel(R) SpeedStep Technology. If you turn it off the messages should stop.  You should also make sure you have the most current version of BIOS

reset BIOS to default and set power option as high performance

If you have issue with overheat try clean the dusk from your PC

I think this issue maybe caused by custom setting on processor performance at power option(maybe 3rd party software in BIOS or Windows as Zigzag mention with sample case here ), you also can try to set this setting as default and try cleanboot

Bios is up to date ..... as I said, when you go into a lot of these BIOS systems today, there is little you can do ....... most are UEFI and I assume the manufacturer's are afraid users will mess things up ....... when I went into my  UEFI, I wanted to get to my Power tab (used to enable/disable speedstep) ....... no tabs at all were visible !!!!!! I was told I would void my warranty if I used methods on the web to make these things visible ..... this is very irritating ....... having access to the new EFTI systems is worthless/useless.

I have my computer power levels set to maximum performance .......... and on the advanced menu I have minimum processor state and maximum state set for 1% and 100% on both AC and battery power.

When I first started looking into this, I found my processor was "stuck" at turbo speed (2.6 Ghz) ...... after going up and down with the advanced power settings, it finally became dynamic again !

Others have this same problem ..... I believe it is a software problem ...... some type of conflict between the BIOS structure and Windows .... 2 softwares interacting .... both somehow involved with processor speed control ..... supposedly, speedstep only LIMITS speed .... while at idle ..... perhaps it is limiting speed when it shouldn't as this always occurs at start-up when there is a large load on the processor.

But, without being able to access the adjustments in the "BIOS", I can't even try and see if it has an effect to disable it. Frustrating.

do you remember if there any changes before this issue happen? Windows update, OS upgrade, install or uninstall software

try to check whether this issue also happen at safe mode, or you can try clean boot

try to perform system restore using restore point

Hi rrecroc,

When did the issue start to occur ?Will the issue persist or happen randomly ?

" I believe it is a software problem "
We can try to perform a clean boot to have a verify as britishdhz suggested.

"perhaps it is limiting speed when it shouldn't as this always occurs at start-up when there is a large load on the processor."
Have you considered an overheat issue here ?

Best regards
