Event ID 1001 DHCPv6-Client
I keep getting this error in Event Viewer every 7 or 8 minutes. It says that my computer was not assigned an address from the network (by the DHCP Server) for the Network Card and that my computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server.I'm having no issues at all with Windows 7. I connect with a wireless card and I have my networking controller disabled (this error started before I disabled my networking controller). Is there a way to get rid of this error?ThanksMark

HiThis is error only if you use TCP/IPv6 protocol to connect to LAN and internet. You obviously use TCP/IPv4, so this error must be ignored. You can disable TCP/IPv6, but this can cause some real problems, so better ignore that error. I think this will be fixed in final release of W7

What problems can it cause? I already disabled it in my wireless adapter properties (it did get rid of the error). If it's going to hose the whole system I'll put it back but I figured I'd wait and see if anything goes wrong.ThanksMark

Mark - For your Ipv4 setup - are you using a fixed IP, or a DHCP assigned IP ?From a command-line (DOS) window, if you do an IPCONFIG, what info is returned for your DHCP lease info ?

I believe it's DHCP. I get my settings automatically. Not sure about IPCONFIG. What specifacally are you looking for? I don't want to post info that identfies me.ThanksMark

Sorry - I didn't mean to alarm you...I was meaning for you to provide if IPCONFIG shows that DHCP is enabled (for one thing), and the timestamps for "Lease Obtained" and "Lease Expires", especially if there is some corrolation between these various lease timestamps and the error messages you've previously referenced. When you first power up, do an IPconfig (maybe even leave the DOS window open, minimized.) check these 'Lease" timestamps... later on, if you are checking the error logs, and see the referenced errors, do another IPCONFIG, and see if your 'lease' timestamps have changed... if the timestamps have indeed changed, then "something" is causing your machine to renegotiate your DHCP lease, and then the issue can be looked at a bit deeper.IPCONFIG might also indicate that you have a second active network adapter, which is what is trying to obtain a lease, and fails, and not your wireless connection...Good luck and let us know if this helps at all.
