Extra Unidentified network and no internet access.
A couple of weeks ago I started having the following problem with my computer (It is a Dell XPS420 with only a single hard wirednetwork connection to a router/switch/firewall which in turn is attached to a cable modem). When I turn on my computer on, I find that I do not have internet access, just local network access. The Control Panel Network and Sharing Center shows that I have an extra "Unidentified network (Public network)". If I go Manage network connections I see I have a single Local Area Connection "Intel(R) 82566DC-2 Gigabit Network Connection". If Idisable and then re-enable this network connection, the extra unidentified network goes away and my remaining private network connection restarts with both local and internet access. Also my file and folder settings return from the Off state to the On state that I originally configured them to. Other computers on mynetwork do not have this same problem. Is there some kind of windows vista update I installed that is causing this problem? Does anybody at Microsoft have any idea what the problem could be? Is there anything I can do to fix this problem?

Hi, Please collect the following information before and after you reset (disable and re-enable) the Local Networking Connection: 1. Screenshot of the Network and Sharing Center. 2. Windows IP Configuration by using the command ipconfig /all. 3. Router Table by using the command route print. After that, please zip the above six files and upload to the following space: https://sftasia.one.microsoft.com/choosetransfer.aspx?key=04f631c5-0598-4aa0-af1b-756fa47c471c Password: o@_nJvs-0SFe

Hi Dave, I have checked the information and found that before you reset the network connection, there are two Default Gateway entries. One of them is 0.0.0.0 which will result in the network packetsbeing routed through this wrong gateway. Based on my experience, this issue can occur after installing certain third party application. Here are some articles regarding the similar issues: Default gateway On-link problem!? http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2907026&SiteID=17 Vista 64 + Itunes 7.6 (bonjour service specifically + Reboot = No Internet? http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1346079 Note: This response contains a reference to a third party World Wide Web site.
