Failed Update causing loss of network connection
On 9/6/2008 I woke up to find that the automatic update process used by my HPf Pavilion had shut down the computer and I started it up. I noticed when the HP Diagnostic finished running that I had 75% available space. It used to be about 68%. I then found that I was unable to connect to my wireless network. In doing the trouble shooting I was informed that I would need to insert a wireless card. Well since my laptop has wireless installed (or did) I was confused. Being in the middle of a project I went out bought a cable and plugged into my wireless modem. In reviewing the Update History i noticed that on 9/6/2008 there had beentwo attempts to install an update named "Broadcom - Networking - Broadcom 4321AG 802.11a/b/g/draft -n Wi-Fi Adapter." Both attempts failed. My question is "Now what?" did this wipe out my previous network adapter? What do I do now? Thanks,

Hi, Thank you for your posting. Given the current situation, I suggest you take the following steps to troubleshoot this issue. NOTE: Please remove your cable before taking the suggestions. Please open the Command Prompt with elevated token to run the command ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew: 1. Click Start, type cmd in the Start Search box. 2. Right click the cmd icon and select Run as Administrator. 3. Then type the commands. If there is any error, please let me know what error message is displayed. Then, please run the command ipconfig /all and post the result here. Thank you for your cooperation. Please understand that the drivers on the Windows Update site are directly provided by hardware manufacturers. At same time, I suggest you contact manufacturer to manually update your network adapter driver to troubleshoot this issue. I have not yet had time to attempt the solution you suggest. I am in Southwestern La (Lafayette) and we just experienced impacts from Hurricane Ike. I will attempt your solution later today or on sunday. Since I am not a technical person I assume when you state to type the run the command "ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew" I am to do one at a time, i.e. at the command prompt I would type ipconfig/release and then hit enter. Then at the result of that action I assume I will have a new command prompt and would type ipconfig/renew and hit enter. Then if there is no error message I would type "ipconfig/all" at the command post. If I am not correct in the process please let me know. Thank you, Cigarsmoker
