Fax over wired network?
I have an HP 6310 All-in-one printer that I have set up as a hard wired (Ethernet) net priner/scanner/fax. All HP software has been successfully installed - I can print and scan over the network either in wired or wireless mode. I am trying now to send a fax. The all-in-one is connected to a Vista SP2 desktop PC's modem, and I can send a fax from that PC. However, when I try and send a fax from my Win 7 Professional RTM laptop using the HP fax driver, it fails to complete (I posted this to an HO forum). So I decided to try the Microsoft Fax and Scan app in Win 7. This send the fax to the outbox but no further (printed to Win 7 fax driver - not HP Fax driver). I tried setting up a fax account in the MS app - it asked for the server name - I tried \\192.168.1.120 (the URL for the all-in-one) and \\OFFICE - the name of the desktop PC. Both returned the same message - "The mentioned fax server is not available. please correct the server name and try again" If an all-in-one is connected to a networked printer, should that make it a fax server? If so, is there anything else I need to do to connect to it? I tried setting a share in the Vista fax driver in printers, but it said that the device does not support sharing.Windows 7 Professional RTM

This issue occurs if the HP fax driver is not compatible with Windows 7. The driver cannot be used for network fax, or even cannot be used when try to send fax locally.
I suggest that you contact HP to confirm if the fax driver is compatible with Windows 7.

HP claims that drivers will be available. We'll have to wait and see if it works. In the meantime, I can remote to my VISTA machine and fax the document out that way from a shared folder.Windows 7 Professional RTM

OK - drivers are available but no change in the ability to send the fax. Could someone please review my original query and make a suggestion. If it can't be done, so be it.Windows 7 Professional RTM
